We came together on the 43rd Anniversary of the Andrea Doria/Stockholm collision
with family and friends from different parts of the United States. Most of us came
from the New York area and some of us from Florida, California & Nebraska. We saw
familiar faces and a few new ones as well. We shared old memories and shared some new
ones. Joan Dier Delles, Antonio De Girolamo and Michele Moscatiello were attending the
reunion for the first time.Chef Vincenzo served a gourmet
dinner based on the Andrea Doria menu that was being served in First Class the night of
the collision. After the introduction of the Survivors Reunion Committee, a few speeches
were made by some of the survivors.
Soon we began to say goodbye to each other and vowed to reunite next
year to remember those that perished in the collision and to celebrate our lives.
As Michele Moscatiello put it, "It's not worth it to explain. God wanted us to
survive."
On behalf of the survivors, I would like to thank David Bright,
Captain Robert Meurn, Chef Vincenzo Della Torre and especially Christine Meurn for
organizing our reunion. |
